Meet the team!
Hi, my name is Julie Kotler and I am originally from Montreal, Quebec, but now live in Tel Aviv, Israel. For the past few years, I have been working as a freelance editor (both online and offline) as well as a book editor, and worked as an assistant program developer for an educational center. Before this program, I had also completed my B.Ed. and B.A. but my strong belief in the power and value of technology within education is what encouraged me to pursue my Masters in Education Technology as well as a career in the field. Along with many other recent technologies, I believe open learning environments offer great potential and will continue to do so in the future.
Hi, my name is John. In teaching I strive to empower people to learn. I see myself as a facilitator. If I can help a learner experience success and enjoyment, they will be more motivated to learn. I experienced this personally at crucial times in my educational progress and determined to pay it forward. I live and work in Edmonton Alberta. I started at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) as a coordinator for academic technology. From there I moved to managing a department of educational technology and digital media. In this role I oversaw a number of very interesting initiatives that ranged from developing courses for fully online delivery to the in-house development of learning simulations. I have recently moved to the Institution’s department of Academic Planning and Development. It is an opportunity to be part of the active management of our programming sustainability, and to bring an educational technology perspective to how we expand and enhance what we offer.
My name is Grant Sorensen, and I’m a program coordinator and instructor in the ELL (English Language Learning) department of Bow Valley College in Calgary. Although my B.Ed. is in secondary English, most of my career has been in adult ESL, which I find very satisfying and rewarding. I started teaching ESL in Japan and have also taught second language learners in Taiwan.
I’m interested in using technology to enhance instruction to learners of varied linguistic and educational backgrounds, especially in the areas of language and technical literacy skills required to pursue education and career goals. In the past few years, technology has greatly increased opportunities for second-language instruction, and I look forward to finding new ways to enhance learning through effective use of technology in the classroom.
